Florida cracking down on out of State plates ?

Seems every state but Montana is.

Just another example of technology and big brother watching us. License plate reading has been around for a couple of years already, this is just a new application. Automatic speed ticket system very close. Also in the works - low cost facial memory system. Enter store and you will be greeted by name and directed to items on sale that you are known to be interested in. You can run but you can't hide.

I know this may seem like a soap box, but I have a question. Why all the hype about "privacy" at medical facilities? Medical folks have to spend a large part of their day making sure they don't reveal any private information. Big Brother is watching everywhere else, why is a hospital/health care facility any different?

I spent a good amount of time actually reading one of those hospital privacy act notices one time. If the one I read was any example, then these are just as much about them SHARING information about you to parties they deem acceptable; the government, the insurance industry, the law, the credit bureaus etc etc. Your "signing just to acknowledge receipt" as they will tell you, simply means you have been put on official, legal notice and give your permission (likely at a most unfortunate, possibly vulnerable time).

Executive - I don't fully understand.. what are they cracking down on? People that live there and have never changed there tags and registration? Or tourists with dead tags from their home states etc? Please explain what you may know about it.

I own a house in FL and also in PA. Many times I leave a truck in FL with PA tags and pick it up a few months later on next trip down. It's got good tags and inspection from PA. Wonder if I am a violator.

I think this is just a scare tactic by the highway patrol because simply recording a license plate like this isn't going to prove their case. I doubt that any state has a law that says one of their residents can't own a vehicle that is registered in another state. But every state will have a law about how long that vehicle can be in the state without the plates being changed. For example I live in California and if I wanted to keep my motorhome in Florida all the time and just fly out there to use it, it's going to have to have Florida plates on it. And I can even drive it back to California if I want, but I can only keep it in California a very limited amount of time. So just because I may be spotted in California with it, doesn't prove I'm breaking the law.

However, here in California the CHP does have officers assigned to enforce these kinds of things. What they will do is find out where vehicles are and then check on them on a regular basis to see if they ever leave the state. After they determine they have been in the state too long then they start the prosecution process.

ANY expired tags and FL residents with vehicles NOT registered in FL.

Lots of states have cracked down on residents registering vehicle in other states to get around paying higher tags/registration fees and sales tax.

It's legal in FL to drive a vehicle registered in the name of a corporation or business.

With the passing of the PPACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) all of that has changed. Trust me on this, but if I tell you the truth about how it has changed, that could be deemed political and as such not welcome here. You will have to read the bill (2200 pages as a bill- 905 standard pages) and the committee rules and guide lines (something between 20k and 30K pages depending on who you believe) to actually find out things have changed.

I always wonder about this as I have homes in 3 states and a DP that might be parked anywhere----you would think they would want us to spend our money and so what if our tags are from somewhere else.....I just kind of move them around and keep my drivers license and home address the same place. And I do have something registered in each state. There are far to many rules (laws) in different states to keep up with....most of us if we know it or not are probably in violation of something somewhere.
