Florida Rv Parks in Winter

I'm in Key West at the naval air station RV park. This park has 89 FHU sites and there are 181 units in dry camp waiting to rotate into hookups. Additionally, there is another military location that has about 300 units, all dry camping.

You need reservations in Fl in the winter. The further south you go the warmer it gets, the more crowded it gets, and the more expensive it gets.

I read on the Internet that many/most people make reservations now for NEXT winter. Here we can't make reservations, only active duty can.

Make reservations NOW to be able to have any choice at all, especially the places you mentioned. The civilian cgs in Key West run $100+ a night in the winter, so be sure you bring your wallet. Around Orlando and Ft. Myers is expensive too.

The further south you go yes reservations are needed.

Depends on what your plans are. Stay in CG/resort with lots of activities or stay in CG and site see. The bigger resorts with all types of activities where you never have to leave to have fun are usually are reserved up ahead of time. The later not so much.

The past four years I have never made a reservation and never was without a CG to stay at! BUT I stay in central Florida. The further south you go that all changes along with the $$CG rates$$! :C

We are currently wintering south TX (Rockport) as we have the last three years. We have been researching central FL RV parks as a possibility for next winter and it looks like the central FL RV parks are more reasonable. However, it is still double what we are currently paying in TX. So we are still undecided.

Here in central Florida (Tampa area) the rates run between $175.00 plus elec per month up to $800.00 plus elec per month. Reservations are "suggested" but there are tons of empty spots this year.

We are in the park where we winter just south of Sarasota. For any length of stay, a month or more, you need to make a reservation in the spring. If it's just for a few days, you might get in if your dates are flexible.

We are in Punta Gorda, south of Tampa is where you will find the best winter temps in my opinion. We really like south west Florida, from Naples to Sarasota/Bradenton. We have wintered in TX, AZ, CA and many places in FL. We purchased an RV lot this past March because we like the weather here best. I hope this helps, Bill

We are in Crystal River and there are more people in the park this year than ever. At over 400 sites. it looks like about 95% occupancy with very few spots available on weekends. The folks in the office are suggesting reservations before we leave if we want a long term spot next year.

The further south and the closer to the ocean the more you might want reservations and it's more expensive. That said, for a first trip I would not make any reservations as there are plenty of sites for a few days in SW Fla. For SE Fla where there are fewer RV parks and the Canadians come down early and stay all winter you will need reservations.

Check out Quail Run RV Park in Wesley Chapel FL. Nice park with long level paved pull thrus. Not cheap in the winter but we felt it was worth it. That's where we stay when in Tampa area. It's about 20 minutes north of Tampa. Convenient to shops, restaurants, movie theater. A bit of a drive to the beach.
If you arrive during the week you should be able to get a site there unless they are having a rally. Holidays or weekends or for longer stay I would make reservations. They do charge for electricity on monthly rentals. Our electric for a month in the winter was about $75. Another park we like in FL is Rock Crusher Canyon. Off US19 northwest of Tampa.

I live in Florida and can't even find a State park to go to from November till March because of all the snowbirds filling them all up.....
