Freightliner service

Our Journey 40U is a 2012 with 30,000 miles. We bought it new so all the miles are ours. We have yet to have Freightliner service the chassis. They recommend service at 6k, 12k, 24k etc. I'm a bit of a skeptic, never brought my cars back to the dealership for service and did just fine. Any opinions or experiences in this matter would be helpful. Another words, should I or shouldn't I.

Thanks
  • I have the professionals do mine. The 21 point inspection they do with the lube and chassis service has prevented future problems that I surely would not have discovered. Exhaust manifold gasket pushed out at last service found, 68000 miles, discovered while greasing the fan belt shroud zerk. If your doing it your self and know how that's good. You have serviced it your self in those 30K miles right? If not, get her done!
  • I did my own service for the first 30k. Just went for 60k Preventive Maintance oil and filters service (a little over $300) at Freightliner Oasis in Tolleson, AZ. They found an exhaust leak and a bad turbo plus coach ride height was out of spec.
I would not have found those problems at such an early stage and could have had serious problems down the road. Contrary to popular belief diesel engines are not bulletproof.

The warranty company inspected and approved repairs. Close to 5k. I haven't seen final bill. It is ready, but I won't pick it up till Monday.
Find a good Freightliner Oasis center. A good shop can save you money.

As a note Freightliner Tolleson also did the 45k PM oil and filters.
  • Freightliner doesn't just go by miles. They also go by time, whichever comes first. It's all in your manual.

If you haven't done any chassis maintenance by now then you have probably voided your Freightliner warranty.

What about your engine? The same parameters apply, time or miles, whichever comes first. If you haven't done ALL of the required maintenance then that warranty is probably void as well.
  • There are several items that need to be lubed. Also Air dryer and air filter, fuel filters etc

If FL didn't do the service, that's fine.

If the required services were not done, that's really bad and has voided your warranty. Your diesel coach is not a car and has considerably different requirements.

I have had warranty service done on various vehicles and never had to show proof of having services done. I do my own service/maintenance and keep records but never showed them to anyone.
  • Is this a Dinghy (Toad) that you tow behind you motor home? You have posted in the Dinghy Towing forum. You may get better results in the correct forum. Dick

  • You might miss out on some software updates or recalls but other than that it is no big thing unless......
