You'll find a mixed crowd here.
Some do, some don't.
Some haul their water from home (there's a whole bunch of threads on that too...)
Others fill up when they get near or arrive at their destination.
I don't recall hearing anyone has died from drinking their on board water, just be sure you sanitize at least at the beginning of the season.
We generally use our on board water for everything but making coffee. We bring a couple of gallons from home for that task. I can take bugs, rain, mud, and even yippy dogs and screaming kids while camping, but I gotta have coffee that tastes like at home.
