- Gene_in_NEExplorer III just about did that cause I pull an enclosed trailer with motorcycle inside. I often back that trailer almost a block. Thought it would be so much easier to push it in and see where I am going. Before i got a chance to buy and mount a hitch on the front, I got good enough to back it backward without too much hastle. Decided before I unhooked, turned the motorhome around, and rehooked on the front; I would have it backed in.
Now if you were thinking of hauling something on the front axle to even out the load on the axles, it would be a good idea. I would be careful on what you put into that front carrier that does not block your headlights or air flow to the radiator. - TachdriverExplorerMy friends father did that, it was easier for him to back his trailer in. Depends on your truck and how much tongue weight you have. My rig is in my sig. You can see I don't have much room left to do this so I just back in.
- Dusty_RExplorerI put a hitch on the front of our mh to use a bicycle carrier.
- Dick_BExplorerX2 on the front hitch for a bike rack but attached to the undercarriage not the bumper.
- j-dExplorer IIDick_B +1. Bumper alone won't provide adequate support. Luckily there are commercially made front hitches available. eTrailer shows quite a few.
- owenssailorExplorerHave front receiver frame attached on current and previous truck. It is used for a bike rack. It gets used all winter.
curt makes front hitches specific to the truck frame. The weight capacities are not as high as common rear receivers. - DaHoseExplorerMine has a front hitch welded to the frame, but I don't really use it. I figured it would be good for launching boats too.
One pain in the ass is that it covers the sway bar bushing bracket. I will have to do some cutting if I decide to install a more stout bar or new bushing.
Jose - jfkmkExplorerI installed a front receiver hitch for our bike rack. Works great.
- Cobra21ExplorerThanks for the comments. I will use it to launch a 1,000 pound boat with a tongue weight of around 120 lbs. It would be for our Chev. class C motor home
with a steel bumper. When I back the boat up and see it in a door mirror
it is too late, no usuable back window.
Brian - ron_dittmerExplorer IIA good class-3 front hitch would be nice for people who want to mount up front, a bicycle rack or spare tire.
With a much stronger rated hitch, I have seen a couple on this forum tow their B+ with a huge diesel pusher. They use their B+ toad for trips deep into Mexico while their base camp is in the USA.
