Front window shade

Ours did the same thing. I was trying to move the coach from storage and it, like yours would only move and inch or so. I kept pushing the up and down switch and it would get a little further each time. After several times it 'broke loose' and worked fine. A couple of months later, after back in storage again, it repeated. Same situation, only this time it took less than a couple of minutes for it to start working properly again.
I cannot imagine trying to get up under that upper side to remove that roller and wiring

Thanks for info on your replacement of motor. I'm not sure if I have the patience to make necessary modifications for new motor installation. I will have to review other avenues before committing.

I went through this exercise a while ago - here's the app note I wrote detailing how I resolved the issue: Repairing the AutoMotion window shade

Removed motor from shade housing with same movement. Motor still only moves slightly with and without power supplied. New motor appears solution now.

You may want to give your motor a second chance. Now that you have it out I would take it off the assembly and see if the motor runs OK on its own. The fact that it runs for 1" suggests that it is a bind in something to do with the mechanism rather than a blown motor -- at least a this point. Maybe with the motor off you will notice something else that is the culprit.

It is not programmable nor remote controlled. It is direct wired and am wondering how to remove and get access to motor.

If you have up/down limit switches tucked away at the end of the roller, press/hold them simultaneously to go into re-program mode.

Is it a programmable type where you set the up and down limits? if yes, reset

Is it direct wired, or is it a wireless remote? Some of the wireless remote's don't work great. I had a wireless one for a year, then tossed it and added direct switches & wiring.

See what it does if you put 12 volts directly to the motor. Most of these simply reverse the wiring polarity to get up and down.

Since you get the same one inch of movement in each direction, I'd suspect the motor/shade assembly instead of the switch.
