Front windshield screen stop working

The front sun screen on our Monaco Camelot 2009 stopped is almost not working...it only raises or lowers approximately 1/2 inch at a time. Can anyone advise if this is a motor problem or a switch problem... Any information on repairing would be appreciated.
  • My MCD shades did something that sounds like what you describe. One windshield shade would move a half inch at a time but the other would not move at all.
The cause was a shorted motor in the shade that did not move. When it was disconnected the other shade worked fine. The MCD factory used a pretty small wire size and when the shade switch was pressed I think the voltage drop on the power lead to the shades was so much that it screwed up the other shade.
  • Experienced that issue with my Automotion shade - it turned out to be the motor. Automotion speced a motor that was barely adequate to lift the shade and it eventually just died. Of course they wouldn't sell me a new motor - they wanted me to buy a new shade. So, I found a supplier of motors and replaced it with one that had twice the torque - it's been working great for 3 years now!
  • Sometimes they will get goofy and do what you're experiencing. I'm guessing it's an MCD. Go to MCD's website and look find the adjustment for your shade style. It will include pushing the little buttons at end one end or the other, depending on how yours was set up. The reset requires turning the ignition on and off and is a good time to set the solid shade to where you would like it to stop while driving. I wanted mine to come down farther and set it that way.

It's an easy job, you just need to read through the instructions as you do it. I brought my laptop out to the RV to do it.
  • Look for a loose wire both on the plus side and the negative (ground) side. Check the motor, Is it bound up, overheating,?
If it has over temp protection on the motor is it tripping?
  • Need to know what brand. MCD or Auto motion. Do you know if the screen is hardwired or is a RF remote operation shade? Doug
