100gal tank
pump in 85gal, that means you still had fuel in the tank when you stopped right
you didn't run it empty, so you can't pump 100gal in to it
why are you trying to fill up the fill tube
when it stops filling normal its full
once the vent tube is blocked air can't escape, so trying to fill anymore is going to make it foam
Yes, I was just under half full when I stopped to fill up. At half a tank, I should have about 50 gallons but after putting in 29 gallons, it clicked off. Then I milked it, tried taking the other cap off, and put the jacks down to raise the fueling side just to put another 12 gallons. That 12 gallons took about 20 minutes. When I left the station the needle still showed below the "F". I'm guessing I got about 90-92 gallons in but I have no idea. I guess I don't care that much about getting an extra few miles down the road but I was trying to figure MPG and couldn't get it full to give me a good starting point!
For what it's worth, mine does the EXACT same thing. We've owned this coach, an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the C-7 330HP CAT, for about 5 years and, it's done the same exact thing for five years. It too has dual filling places. I too have done all you've done to try and alleviate the problem.
And yes, just like yours, IT'S NOT FULL, as others have so thought. Based on the fuel gauge readings, and the mileage etc., when mine starts to gurgle, it's anywhere from 12-18 gallons low from full. To me, that's a lot. If I didn't persist, like you, in taking the extra time to click, dribble, click, dribble, click, dribble etc. I'd pull away from the pumps at a hair over 3/4 of a tank.
That's not why I pulled in for fuel, I pulled in for A FILL UP! And that means to the FULL mark on the gauge. Some folks are lucky and, their coach will take fuel right up to the full point, without issue. But there are thousands of us out here/there that do have this problem, to some extent or another.
Yes, you can simply just stop filling when it barks at you. And drive off with 3/4 of a tank or so. If you can tolerate that, that's great. It's too bad they, (the coach makers) just couldn't put a little more thought into these fueling systems. Re-routing the filler hose, in most coaches, is not an option, it's got to bend all over the place like an L.A. freeway. And, not only that but, diesel does have the foaming issue in the first place that other fuels don't have. I too have had my levels of frustration, trying to see a "full fuel" gauge which, happens about one out of every five fillups.
