Function 2014 Forest River w Onan 5.5 w auto transfer swith

I am new to the Class A and I am looking for information on how the generator system functions. I only know the basics that it provides power when shoreline power is not available, I have a Class A Forest River with a Onan 5.5 and auto transfer switch.

I am interested in how the system works, when to use it, how to use it, how loud is it (In Townhouse community will it run parked on the street without causing a noise problem during daytime hours) and daily and annual maintenance. I will be taking delivery 1,700 miles from home and I need to become familiar with the system before I hit the road and won't have time to study the manual. I'm looking for a head start.

I know I'm asking a lot. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you
  • When you start the generator the automatic transfer switch will engage and the generator will be providing 120v to your rig.
Why would you need to run the generator while the vehicle is parked? You should also consider that your townhome bylaws most likely prohibit parking of an RV in front of your townhouse.
