Washington has one of the higher tax rates, but we don't have an income tax (yet). And, our state sales tax is about 9%, but the actual rate varies with local option taxes. Somehow, somebody has to pay for all these "benefits" our government provides, including the "free" roads.
Nothing is free, and I think everyone realizes that. In New Jersey the transportation fund is dead broke. We pay something like 2.5 million per mile of state road, yet they're not gold plated. More likely the double and triple dipping politicians are providing their key money contributors lucrative contracts while giving the tax payers the shaft.
