generator electrical problems

I have a 1994 Winnebago Adventurer with an Onan 5000 generator. I don't have any power when the generator is running, but I do have power when we are plugged into the 110 outlet. I have had the generator checked and it is generating power. I am wondering if it is an automatic transfer switch that is my problem. I am looking at that because I did have the motorhome plugged in and also started the generator. Can you tell me where to look for the switch or any ideas on what my problem may be. Thank you!
  • If you're plugged into shore power, then you can't also be plugged into the generator. Without plugging the shore power line into the generator, the generator can not apply power to the motorhome. The generator is not hard-wired into the house.

Disclaimer: The advice in this post is based on my experience with my 96 Brave.

Try resetting the breakers on the generator. It solved my problem, they were not tripped.
If that doesn't fix your problem, look at your transfer switch.
