generator shuts off

I have a 1992 Fleetwood bounder diesel pusher(bought it a week ago) I bought it in LA, took it to a rv camp 20 mins away and stayed for 3 nights, no problems with generator. drove from lytle creek cali to vegas and generator would not stay on. i'm stranded in mosquite nv ina heat wave, temps 115 today...no generator for air con. the most it stays on is 20 mins b4 shutting off. its the weekend and I'm not from mosquite...I had a mechanic out to look at it, he suggested tieing a wire around the shut off cylinoid to prevent the gen from shutting off. I said no. that cost me 170 bananas.

I rented a mh lot from casino hotel. I plugged in power and turned on gen and ac, but just barely blew out air. i'm in the actual hotel room now sitting here trying to figure out what to do. I bought this to drive cross country and live full time...somebody help!!!
  • Did you check gen set oil level. Low oil level may be the problem. Why did you run gen set when you had power. Something does not make sence here.Is it gen set or AC which does not work.
  • First, check your oil level in the generator. Next, check the fuel in your tank...the generator will not run if it's below 1/4 tank. Finally, if all else fails, grab a spot at one of the casino campgrounds there in Mesquite and hook up to A/C., then trouble shoot it when you get home.....Dennis

P.S. It also helps if you post the brand and output of the genset...D
  • I see you have a diesel powered MH.
But does the Gen run off diesel or propane ?
  • All the above AND check for dirty air filter. They shut down for dirty air filters, low oil, low fuel level.
  • With a 21 year old RV you need to have everything checked and or serviced before leaving on a trip, especially in the desert.

You stated that you "plugged in power and turned on gen and ac". Why would you do that? If you are plugged into power don't run the generator too. If the A/C doesn't run on shore power you have A/C problems too.

Other possible generator shutdown issues are a bad temperature sensor. Engine will start and run for a few minutes then shutdown. Check the code the generator give you after the shutdown.
