Lotta motorhome to pull around with a gas engine...I would look for a used Diesel in that price range and size.
I'm not sure about the OP but for me the appeal is the drop down bunk over the front seats, a warranty with a new coach, the fact that everything is new so more predictable ownership (no tires or batteries to replace, etc.).
I'm well aware of the benefits of DPs and it's always a trade-off. The newer gassers are getting some pretty good reviews. Less engine scream due to better insulation around the motor and a 6spd tranny.
Handling concerns do seem to be the #1 complaint of gasser owners - at least if the number of threads on message boards is any indication. I'd pretty much plan for some Sumo springs and maybe some other upgrades if/when I purchase.
For 100K-125K you have to get pretty old to get a DP of any quality and finding one that is family friendly is a challenge. I honestly don't think a 300HP Cummins found in entry level DPs will do that much better than the gassers in most applications.
Also, the 100k-ish price point of many DPs puts you right in the new years of emission stuff (2008-2011 or so). Thanks but I'll gladly steer clear of that new technology.
My grand plan is to roll around in a DP someday so I definitely get it. It's just tough as a family to justify the expense of a newer DP or the potential costs of an older one.
