Grand Canyon to Moab

we've done most of this route many times in our rig.
from GC to Moab, take the east gate out of the park and take 160 to 191 and north to I 70. Then west to 191 N, also called 6, up Vernal and on north to 89 and up to Jackson WY etc. and into Yellowstone.
We love going this route.
If you want to see some of Monument Valley, turn north at Kayenta and go up to 191 through Mexican Hat. When you enter Mexican Hat it is down a sharp descent of about 3 blocks long with a 90% right turn at the bottom. No big deal, but it does make you think the first time. :)
Vernal UT has a walmart if you are needing one by then.
There is a really nice campground up at the top of the Flaming Gorge area called the Firefighters' Memorial campground. water and dump and some elec hookups.
On north, there is another walmart at Rock Springs. We usually make it past Pinedale, WY about 20 miles to the Green River where there is a federal campground right on the river, with water and dump and elec.
That puts us just right for arriving early at Jackson and we stay at the Gros Ventre campground, about 7 miles north and east of town..in the National park.. on the east side of the park.

While the above route answers your question, if you have the time I would suggest going to the North Rim and Zion/Bryce and then I-70 east to 191 and then the 30 miles south to Moab. To me it's a much more interesting route although it's 200 miles further but not as many miles of desolate desert.

This route will be allowing you to also see many State Parks along the route (Goblins - Kodachrome - Capital Reef NP - Escalante and Rt 12 Hog back, just to mention a few) Having driven this route a few, but not nearly enough, it has NEVER been anything but a Blast.

When in Moab be sure to drive Rt 128 IMHO, it is as Beautiful drive as any Park and normally not very crowded.

Dinosaur NM and Flaming Gorge should also be on your Route, along with Wind Canyon if possible, once you get out in this area the DRIVE can be as GOOD as the final destination.

IVY, can likely suggest some great boondocking areas too.

X2 to each of the 3 previous comments. We have just arrived at Jackson, WY, from the 160/191/89 route. Except for a 20-mile stretch, 160 is an excellent hwy. We consider Monument Valley as a "bucket" destination.
Hwy 191 is another pretty good road. Once you arrive in Vernal (Dinosaur country) recommend that you make the 104 mile drive up to Rock Springs as a 1-day effort. The Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is beautiful + you will climb, climb, climb, over 3 mountain passes.
The best treat is the Hwy 191/89 drive from Rock Springs to Jackson. No mountain passes to climb like the previous day. Once you arrive + pass thru Boulder, it is green, green, green. The decent from Pinedale into Jackson is a beautiful treat.

In Moab be sure to rent a 4 wheeler or jeep and take a tour of some of the easy trails. Up close and personal to the canyons a is fantastic

Other than what's been said, and I recommend Ivylog's suggestion, we love Portal RV Resort in Moab. If you decide to stay there, be sure to ask for the owner's section. It's a little more expensive but worth the extra bucks. Plan on two days minimum for the Arches National Park.

If U bypass Rt.12 to Red Canyon, Bryce, Kodachrome, Escalante, Calf Creek, Long Canyon(Day trip out of the village of Boulder), Capital Reef & Goblin Valley u'r missing a trip of a lifetime all itself.

Head South after your visit in Moab to visit Mexican Hat, Navajo Twin Rocks, Four Corners and Rainbow Bridge on Lake Powell.

If I am in that part of the country, I could care less where I stay, just let me see the sights and drive the roads.

Most of the Campsites I just can't remember -- but the drives OOHHHH.

This is a place you just need to take more time in ..............
