Greetings from a Noob to a 1974 Dodge Champion ?Titan?...

I plopped down some long saved up $$ and bought a 1974 Dodge Champion (Titan? IDK)

It's rough...has had some previous interior changes. And I'm sure I have a "Polly Anna" fixation, because I think it's adorable...despite knowing it's likely going to be a money pit.. LOL

I just got it, so first thing is to yank the icky pillowtop mattress out..remove the boards used to support the mattress, etc. The table is missing. Fridge is gone.

I bought it to enjoy day fishing trips, Camping on the river over-nights close to home...to grandkid sleepover fun. I have no plans to take it more than 100 miles away.

It does run- rough, but does run/drive. Needs a tune up for sure. Has an exhaust hole that makes it sound like my '79 Ford 4x4's dual Flowmaster RAWRRRRRR...(*gives me goosebumps) but Husband clearly shot me down saying "That's NOT sexy Babe, That's a hole in or near the manifold...".. HaHa DANG!

Im excited to learn any and all info I can- I will be voracious! I will be looking for/looking up Owners manuals for wiring schema, and repair/maintenance . It's about 20 ft long, has the Dodge M chassis, and the 381 LA small block engine. It does not start in park- but in neutral. Does have new tires!!

I'd like pointed to places I can see what the interior is supposed to look like. All the bones are in place.

Thanks for any help!

  • We purchased a 73 Escapade 26' in 1998 on the Dodge chassis. It had 5500 miles on it and had been stored inside for its entire life, as the owner was hurt in a logging accident early in its life. They saved it for the kids to use but they never did. Had to change the split ring wheels to tubeless wheels and tires, added dash and roof air, cruise and numerous other additions. Pulled out the Orange shag carpet and replaced it and had the cushions reupholstered. Over the next 3 years we put on over 25,000 miles on it and enjoyed every mile. It had the 413 wedge motor, lots of power in it. In 74, some Dodges had the 440 and disk brakes. Customize to whatever suits you and have a blast. Happy Trails Bert
