How much aux brake effect should I be sensing?

The brakes on my Jeep are working. I have indications on dash & I don't feel it. A lot different when a small vehicle is towing a large object. In our 34 ft MH & towing a 3000 lb object not much indication. I only added braking because it is a requirement in some states. Back in the 80s I towed without brakes. Feels the same.
