How to remove powergear slide motor/gearbox?

The rear slide assembly started making noises, then a big clunk and now the motor runs without any motion from the rear slide.

Is there a shear pin on these units? I can't see one from below.

Does the slide need to be extended to make enough room to allow removal of the motor/gear assembly? I can't see how that long steel assembly could be removed with the slide in.

For removal, do you just remove the four nuts that hold the brackets to the frame supports? And also remove the end cap where it attaches to the slide?

Any help or links would be appreciated,

2008 Itasca 30B

I was told the motor and the gearbox are sold together: part number is 148875-01-705, price is 272.40
  • The failure was the plastic acme screw nut - about $6 and on-hand at Lichtsinn Motors. Much better than the $1500-2000 and 6 weeks quoted at Boise CW.

One of the nuts clevis pins was bent, and the 12 tiny plastic 'rivets' that hold the covers on cost over $2 ea - go figure.

Items of interest to other WInnie/Itasca/Kwickee/Power Gear slide owners:

    1. A shaft protrudes from the rear of the motor/gearbox. It can be viewed (or felt) and if it turns when the IN or OUT buttons are pushed, the acme nut is broken.

    2. If there is a min of about 3" clearance behind the motor/gearbox, it can be removed without removing the big long steel slide tubes.
  • Pleased and surprised: Power Gear replied the same day. Although they didn't directly answer my questions, they forwarded links to some helpful info.

Of particular interest is a step by step on how to replace the acme drive nut on a FLS DigiSync system. If there's enough room to remove the motor/gearbox, then I won't have to remove the much heavier, larger, longer outer and inner (square) tubes.

I can see the external portion of the gearbox shaft turning when the IN or OUT button is pushed so I'm thinking it may be a broken acme nut.
  • Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try.

I don't have much hope for that however because I've already downloaded and looked at all Powergear links I could find. None answered the posted questions.

'Hoping a forum member had done (or watched) the motor/gearbox assy removal.
