Jenson JRV212 Radio

My coach has the worst radio reception of anything I have ever owned. It has a JRV212 radio and about an 18" rubber antenna on the roof. I don't know if the problem is with the radio, the antenna or the wiring and would like hear some other's experience before diving into this. Replacing the radio would be the easist but most expensive option. I have seen some indoor antennas advertised that are supposed to work well. I might be able to attach a longer antenna to the side of the coach somewhere. I hate to go with a long one on the roof, it would hit too many things.

I have already routed the cameras to permanent monitors so loosing the three camera feature of the 212 would not be an issue.
  • Have you checked the reception on both the AM & FM channels? It might be that the antenna wire itself is cut or broken. Maybe the audio installer you mentioned can do a check on the antenna wire itself to make sure the signal is actually getting to the radio.
  • I have checked the antenna connection, it seems tight.

I just had an audio installer add an amp, extra speakers and a subwoofer. When he saw the radio he said that it was an Audiovox in a fancy wrapper and not to expect too much from it. I wanted to get another opinion before doing something rash. At least I have good sound in the front now when listening to my own music.

Since the coach has no good place to mount a GPS I am toying with the idea of replacing the Jenson with a unit that has a GPS built in. That might solve the reception problem at the same time.
  • Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - It's the Radio
Jensen is NOT known for quality offerings

Suggest you take a look at what Crutchfield has to offer
Many top drawer offerings and NO Jensen stuff
  • Have you pulled the unit to see if it is something simple like the antenna plug coming loose?
