Leaking Slideout?

Is there trim on the outside of the slide out, if so, look at the caulk when opened and closed. My slide ( not a winne) leaded there and needs annual inspection and caulk

Or it could have run off the top or sides when you closed the slide especially if you don't have a topper.

Our experience was the water coming in at the top and showing at the bottom as you described. After taking slide apart from the inside, we discovered NO caulking (ever) and gaps in the metal frame.....3/4" gaps let in lots of water. Fixed it, filled it, padded it, finally got the leaking to stop. :)

If the slide was out and the grandson sprayed a forceful jet of water up under them, I would be more suprised if it didn't leak. Think about it. When your slides are out is there ever a time when forceful rain will be pushed up against the bottom seal? Maybe if you are in a hurricane. The bottom seal is just not designed for that. I wouldn't panic and keep an eye on next time it rains or you travel in the rain.

I was hoping someone would say just what you did. I was thinking the same thing. We got it cleaned up and I parked it in the garage so everything could dry out and I will NOT have grandson spray the undercarriage again. We had been at a campground on the ocean for over a week so he thought it would be a good idea to rinse the salt spray off the whole rv and I agreed. My bad. Thanks for all the responses. I'll keep an eye on it.

I would much rather have a very rare wet spot on a carpet than a rusting rig.

When our rig gets salted the first time, you can be sure I'll be power washing as much as possible upon our return home. Admittedly we don't have a slide out, but if we did, I'd still do it. Maybe just place towels on the floor prior.

I think your grandson had the right idea. On that rare occasion, simply dry out the interior. As long as it's not flooding the interior, just small amounts that can be toweled up, I'd do it. That is much better than a rig with a rust problem.

Sea air does salt up vehicles. Not just the body, but all areas. Though I am not sure how much in a week's time. Better safe than sorry. My cousin lives on the ocean. Her 7 year old Jaguar is a wreck. Sea air salt is extremely fine, getting into very strange places. But I suppose no worse than driving around here in the Chicago area in the winter when every car becomes the color white.

If you change motor homes as often as some people change cars, then I wouldn't bother. But our rig needs to last the rest of my driving years and I'm age 55.
