Looking at 96 Bounder has a small bulge

Hi guys, I am looking at a 96 Bounder with 11k miles on it. It’s in very nice shape and the outside looks like new but on the side near the kitchen (outside) if you look down the side at the right angle you will see a square like if someone were inside pushing the cabinet above the sink towards the outside and the form of it would start to push through on the outside. The thing is it’s just the outline of what looks like a cabinet but if you push on it it’s hard as a rock. A couple people have told me that’s normal with heat and it may just have shrunk a little and is showing the frame but as long as it’s hard and not soft it’s fine and it’s called intrusion. Is that true? I just want to make sure before I buy it. Thanks!

Thanks guys I’ll check it out it is the original fridge though. The unit has 11k on it. I did noticed the little fan in the fridge service door below the lines is basically frozen so it’s not cooling the tubes like it should. I will be replacing it before using it.

That bulge is in line with the refrigerator.
Looks like the refrigerator has been push into the wall.

That bump seems to be right where the fridge is. You should be able to open the lower (or upper, or both) fridge vent and peek at the wall from the inside to see if anything looks particularly amiss. Given that the structure seems solid, I probably wouldn't worry about it too much.

It does make me wonder if the fridge was possibly replaced at some point, or how correct its installation is. An improperly installed absorption fridge (with improper clearances and such) will often not cool reliably.

Hey guys here is a picture. As you can see it’s like the edges of a square which is why I think it’s that intrusion thing where the side shrinks over the frame. What do you guys think? It seems to be the start of a perfect square with two 90 degree angles.

It’s a 34j. I haven’t measured it but it looks like the length and thickness of the wood cabinet on the inside and it goes straight down and then 90 degrees and straight like the pattern of the cabinet.

Tell us what model Bounder you are looking at. The kitchen can be on either side, depending on the model. IE: 28?, 30E, 32H, 34P, 34J, 35U, etc. Also, what size is the protrusion?

Thanks for the info! Use a stud finder on the outside and see if it finds it? What do you mean definite shape? It’s definaly straight like it’s the cabinet or that intrusion. It’s perfetly square but not a solid bubble just extruding in the shape like it’s the wood from the cabinet meeting if that sounds understandable

Oh they are hard? That’s strange. I wish I had a photo of the one I am looking at do you have a photo of them on yours?

You make a good point. Mine are long horizontal bulges, but irregular in shape. But they are hard like yours.
