In the new F150 the v-6 is even a little lighter, and possibly the Twin Turbo 2.7l v-6 as well.

Its a LOT of truck considering the weight.

That is pretty light. Global Ford Ranger has a base weight of 4,860lb,

My 2001 standard cab Ranger Edge was 3600 pounds on the scale at the dump, with me in it (so 3400 empty). I towed that for several years, 2wd with manual transmission. My 1992 Ranger XLT was at least 200 pounds lighter. But those are more compact than mid-size.

4x4 Colorado is towable and midsize. What it weighs depends on how you option it (engine, cab, bed size, tech and trim) with the four cylinder extended cab WT going to be the lightest.

An older 4X4 tacoma with a manual transfer case, a nissan frontier manual trans, colorado/canyon 4X4 with manual transfer case w/neutral, ranger with manual trans....the full size ones will be too heavy.

I towed my Ford Ranger for several years behind a 1999 Pace Arrow with a V-10. No issues at all . I now tow a F150 .
On edit--- both trucks are 4x4 and automatic.

We bought a used 2008 Dodge Dakota 4x4 Quad Cab expressly due to it being "4-down" capable.

Have towed it on 4 trips thus far and works great. Its weight is under 5k lbs, which is under our tow limit (plus no tongue weight.

I use a ready-brake system and installed an under the bed 42" LED light bar on the back and hooked that up to a 4-flat wiring harness that plugs into the RV. That LED light bar is VERY BRIGHT and works well for running lights, brake lights, and turn signals.

If I were looking at BRAND NEW trucks I would consider The GMC/Chevrolet Canyon twins, OR a new Supercab F-150, which is surprising light for a full-size pickup.

Motorhome Magazine also has a similar towing guide going back several years. The Chevy Colorado is towable, have to look at the configuration needed though. Look closely at the necessary configurations on each vehicle your interested in. Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert
