MB/ Sprinter platform towing a boat

I like the E450/350 platform for a 25’ Class C, and the wife wants a Mercedes Sprinter. I tow a boat several times a year, including some mountain passes. Boat is an 18.5 foot Lund. Probably 3500 pounds including trailer. Not sure of tongue weight.

Is the MB platform up to this? How about for launching and pull out?

Thanks
  • my 2007 sprinter pulls my lund pro v 1775 back and forth to AZ no problems .and has alot more leg room than the others .gets 17mpg towing. and mines the 5 cyc mb engine. not the gas hogs .try that leg room before you buy.leisurevans.com

I would suggest that you consider the Chevy based MH they have a little more power. Try driving all three and see what you like.

I would have to agree with this statement, give them all a try,a Chevy Chassis based RV will give you a great ride, handle better and is spacious in the drivers compartment, not as large as the Sprinter but the cost difference between the two is a great selling point.

For the size you want there are many Choices and floor plans.

Good luck in your quest for that perfect RV.
  • We pull a Starcraft Islander 191. I have had it on a scale and it weighs 3200-3400# depending on fuel and equipment in the boat.

We live in Colorado and have no trouble with Eisenhower Tunnel, a little over 11,000 feet and Vail Pass, about 10,600 feet. Yes, I am doing 45 mph geared down. But the Ford v10 will have less HP then the Sprinter has at those altitude. Do the math.

We also pull a Ford Ranger that is about 4,100# and the Sprinter does okay on that as well.

The only thing in an MH that will do substantially better is a Super C and that is a different rig altogether.

We like the Sprinter Floorplan that we have and that is what drove our decision. We also like the Sprinter chassis.
