Metal carport for FT RVer -Need advice

I would get a metal roof. The tarps take a lot of abuse in the sun and the wind. Just be sure to get a white roof and sides.

I have the MH stored in a metal car port. I don't live in it. The roof is white and I installed a large fan up high at the front of the carport to keep the air circulating. The fan kicks on when the temp inside the carport reaches 80 degrees. I think it helps the coach from getting to hot inside the MH.

Anything that you can shade it with would be the BEST. Even a small 1 inch gap between the shade and your coach can make a tremendous difference. You can either go expensive or cheap. Expensive there are lots of options. Cheap is a few pieces of scrap 2x4 on the roof, bungee cords and a big tarp. Use the blocks to keep the tarp of the roof.

Anything thing that can take the Santa Anna winds. Frame and trap might be better IF you pull it down before the winds roll in.

My MH is under a big metal roof here in Texas; it makes a huge difference compared to no roof. Just a couple of feet clearance avoids any concern about radiant heat. It feels no different up on a ladder just under the roof and just standing on the ground. Be sure the east and west ends extend far enough for good shade.

If I was in an area where I was fairly assured of no high winds, no snow and no hail I might go with shade tarps if they're cheaper than metal.

Thanks for the misc suggestions, although no one above appears to have actually lived in an RV parked under a metal carport with metal roof, in high heat and full sun. So I am hoping someone out there has and an really give me the skinny on the radiating heat.

I agree that if I go with metal roof I will select white paint since it will reflect heat the best. And no, I don't want to go cheap, I want to go solid and durable, we have high winds DAILY here, and I don't want to stress about the carport flying off or falling apart and damaging the RV. So I will invest the 2K to 3K to protect my home and get my shade. The company will come install it and anchor it in the ground and I will be styling. So the only question I have really, is which roof to go for, metal or sun shade. And the extra 1K price difference does not come into account here, just the temperature outcome. Aka which of the two will provide lower temps inside the Rv.

As far as metal sides, I think I will pass, I want to be able to see outside and get sunlight, in the winter it warms up the rv. In the summer I can add sun shades to the sides where needed, I have Done it in the past and it works well.

I would run a 2' piece of the roofing horizontal at the top of the long side walls, screwed to each stud.I've done this with mine, and it gives a tremendous amount of strength to the vertical supports. Depending how tall your side walls are, you should still be able to see out.

Haven't lived that way myself, but know two couples who have. Both had to give it up because the metal re-radiated the heat. Their ACs were running constantly for many many hours. Their buildings did not have foam insulation blown on the undersides but they were all white.

Have lived in Rosamond for months at a time visiting my brother and I know what you're facing as far as weather goes. The sun and wind are both brutal. My brothers staked to the ground metal building was blown into a neighbors driveway just a few weeks ago.

If money isn't a big consideration, buy a wooden carport design, adapt it to your purposes, and hire a contractor to build it for you.

I would do white metal with solar powered fan(s) at the end to exhaust the trapped heat.

I had several tarp garages over the years and even the best tarp seldom will hold 3 seasons and I am in the area that has trees for shade.
Then I put metal roofing on the frames and it works perfectly.
The radiant heat with a foot or 2 space doesn't affect RV.
I think building the roof with slight slope would help natural venting.
Than adding fans and mist spray should make big difference.
One time we went to a camp that in the afternoon had 105F (in the shade) and no tree protection.
We stop the Bounder for 1 hr to figure out the best spot for camping and when coming back I got burn on my hand from door handle.
Started generator and after 2 hr of running the 2 ACs cooled interior to nice 96F.
We dove into the lake and did not enter RV till 9 PM.
