- ernie1ExplorerA few years ago we parked our rv at the parking structure at the Fort Lauderdale port when we were also preparing to take off on a cruise. There was an entire floor that was dedicated for oversize vehicles and, from what I could tell, we were the only ones there for the 10 days that we were gone. The parking lot was covered and there was security and cameras galore. Cost us about $160 but it was worth every penny for the covered parking and peace of mind. Should mention that no firearms are allowed in the vehicles so we left ours with a cousin of a friend of ours.
- IvylogExplorer IIIThere is outside parking and a couple years ago it was $10/day... probably more today. The parking garages are not for tall vehicles. Do a Google search and take a look.
I would get there fairly early as the majority of the parking is indoor and most departing passages are off the ships by 9AM.
You now get to the port off of I-395 which is the road to south Miami Beach. - j_p_f_Explorerdo they search your MH before you park or is the firearm rule a wink and nod?
- ernie1ExplorerNot even a wink nor a nod. Never was asked nor searched. I preemptively asked online and got paranoid when I found out. So, I called all of the gun shops in Fort Lauderdale to ask if I could store it there and pay but the said no. Only if you were having the firearm serviced could you leave it there for up to 10 days or something like that. Since my shotgun didn't need any service and a cleaning was like $150.00, I decided to leave it with some relatives of friends of mine. Only cost me a good bottle of wine but I got peace of mind in return.
- Abn1SGExplorerAppreciate all the replies; did some research and found out that the port parking lot by the cruise line charges $40 a day for oversize vehicles to park in their outside lot.
Checked into several close by parking lots and found one with good reviews online and on facebook called Safe Cruise parking lot which charges $25 a day for RVs and they are a couple miles from the port and they provide complimentary transportation to and from the port. The lot is fenced in with 24/7 security and cameras. Looks like this is the way I'm going to go.
