I broke a belt last year (Well technically the year before last) and the bill was less than 100 dollars as I recall (80) BUt,

1: I was able to continue to drive on what remained of the belt
2: It took 'em 30 minutes to replace it.

(Took me close to 2 hours to cut out the part that got wrapped around stuff)

A lot is depending on the time they spent working on stuff. He said 3 hours to find and fix the wire problem (And there was a wire problem so they did a lot mroe than replace a fuse) 3 hours at 150/hr is 450 if they had only ONE man working, if they double teamed it it's 900 bucks, and it sounds like they double teamed. And yes, I feel that's a bit steep epically when you know what the workers get.. (I pay about half that for work on my rig normally) but hey.. That is what my dealer charges.

I'm sure he wasn't blaming the current government. It must have been George Bush's fault.

Sounds to me like you were robbed, I broke down last winter in Fla and the bill for a broken belt was 946.00. These mechanics know they have you by the you know whats, so they charge highway robbery prices. When I questioned the bill, the manager said to me " well you got your coach back" We fought it thru Better Business, called CC company and finally spoke to the owner, after about 3 weeks we got back 300.00. We are at their mercy!

satboyz1, can you at least respond to the remarks you have received? There must have been more to it than replacing a fuse cause the $1400.00 you quoted seems ridiculous for just replacing a fuse. How long did it take? Did Good Sam tow you for free? Help us out here.

want to correct the fuse alone was not $1400. the fuse was the problum had bad conection with goodsam so hope they refund me the towing

towing $650.
3 hr. check park brake $285.found bad spot in wire and repaired
then had them service the trans

looking at the brake down cost was only $935.and should get towing back should have explained it on my post sorry

Hmmm, I thought the tow was probably part of the $1400, then transmission serviced, plus tracking down a shorted out wire which can take quite a bit of time. You probably were not really over charged for the shop charges. If there was a legitimate reason you couldn't communicate with Good Sam they may reimburse you for the tow. They did that for me when I was towed to a place that failed to fix the problem and then the same problem occurred and I had to be towed again. They arranged the second tow but would not pay for it because it was a "recurring problem". I appealed on the grounds that they originally towed me to a place that did not fix the problem and they reimbursed me for the $300 tow charge after I got home. I was very satisfied with the out come.

what ever the 'break down' on the costs
the OP did a lousy job of explaining this 'incident'
tow $650
trouble shooting $285 for 3hrs, sounds like Normal pricing

then he has the tranny serviced

so his FUSE problem, cost him 3 hrs of labor to find and fix
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

Sorry, but it simply does not add up....

$1400.00 less towing of $650 is $750.

That $750 covers three hours labor to track down the problem which was a broken wire, NOT A FUSE, although the broken wire could have shorted out and blown the fuse, and servicing of the transmission.

If your tranny contained or you upgraded to TranSyd that would explain the charges. Sounds like you got a deal to me....$285 for 3 hrs comes out to $95/hr labor charge......Dennis

Workhorse has two Chassis fuse blocks.. One is inside, if you have a "W" chassis with a foot operated parking break it should be near the brake pedal. This is the Aux Panel however .. Either Brake lights or Turn Signals (not sure which) is on this panel though.

The main Chassis panel is under the hood, Top center, it is a plain flat black box with no markings.. Remove the cover, the map of fuses is on the inside of the cover.. There are two bolts at the bottom of the box under the cover, these are 12 volt 30 amp connections should you ever need to know.

Now the story unfolds.

May not have been as bad as first indicated.
Have to watch the jumping to conclusion bug for sure.
