New Purchase

Well I finally did it . Purchased the 1999 Damon Challenger 330 ,275 hp,6.8 v10 on F53 chassis with 52,200 miles. It was pretty much like the pictures showed. Very clean and apart from a couple of minor things in very good condition.. Unit runs like a charm and I drove it from London Ontario to Orleans Ontario.

Beverley&Ken ,you were absolutely correct about the snow squalls and white outs coming off Lake Huron at a moments notice. They really hit hard and fast and not a lot of fun to drive through.

Well time to go and plan my first motor home adventure !

I don't agree... The 401 Between London and Mississauga certainly is in the path of the Lake Huron lake effect snow band. Have been in it many times....
  • Welcome aboard.

I hate to muddy things, but DW has family both in London and Orleans, and unless you took a really strange route, you were not in the lake effect of Huron. That doesn't mean things didn't get bad, but it does mean that they could easily be worse than what you saw. That brings up one of the most important aspects of traveling by RV (and particularly at self contained thing like most MH). That is you don't have to push through weather anymore. If it gets bad, find a flat spot to spend the duration. Lots of small plane pilots get killed by "get-home-itis".

I have been following you purchase and two things got my attention.
It looks like you haven't traveled this way before.
This might be your first RV.

If you haven't traveled this way before, you are in for a treat. You don't need reservations, the night's bed is behind you. You don't need to find a restaurant as you can still eat just like at home (if you choose to).

If this is your first RV, make sure it is winterized and start planning. The first thing to plan is a weekend in your driveway or at least very close to home. That way you can find out what you forgot or never thought of.
