I am in the process of buying new tires for my rig. 275/80 Michelin XZA3 plus - 22.5. The dealer installed the front two, but there was an inventory glitch and they had to order the other 4 which will be in next week. They let me take the rig home. I haven't paid for the tires yet. As I have read and been advised in these forums, I checked the date stamp to insure they are new. On one tire the stamp is clearly marked 23/13, which is what I was expecting. The other tire does not have a stamp. It looks like where the stamp should be there is a decal with a bar code. Has anyone had experience with this? I am bringing it up with the dealer on Monday, but I would like to have some ammo. Thanks

DOT code date normally only on one side of tire. You need to crawl under and look at other side.

They are only marked on one side of the tire. It is probably mounted so the DOT build number is on the inside or between the duals. Don't know why they do that. Sometimes I'd swear they do it on purpose.

And outside of inner dual is between the two :(Policy works OK for singles and front wheels on duallys :)

For future reference, before the tires are put on, I ask to see them and check the date on each tire. I've never been denied my request.

Make no mistake about it; every tire has the date molded into oneof the sidewalls (molded, not 'stamped')

That's the first time I have ever heard that this type of tire is directional.

Look on the side of the tire there is an arrow and the notation " Rotation". Also you can call Michelin and they will tell you that the XZA3 is a directional rotation type tire.
