New tires

Well, an update here, we checked out prices for some, and did an in depth read of all the tire comments on here. We received a quote from one local dealer and its as follows:
Hankook $ 360 per tire
Michelin $ 515 per tire
Goodyear $ 615 per tire
All prices include mounting and balancing each tire.
The tires that are currently on the Motor Home are Goodyear tires, made in 2006.
Since the reviews are good and we also need to replace the tires on the Jeep Wrangler fairly soon, (56000 miles on them) we might go with the Hankook. The Jeep currently has Bridgestone tires. Have not decided for them yet, but all together it adds up to some Dollars to replace. Thank you all for your input,

Thank you all for your suggestions, it helped us eliminate some and look closer at others. Sdianel, we are not far from Denton, might check them out. Also will take a closer look at some besides Michelin. We are leaving on a longer trip before long and while we have not had any issues with the tires at the moment, we need to replace them before the trip for peace of mind if nothing else. We had a 5th Wheel before the Motor Home and had a blow out on the tires that were on there. Toyo I believe. We have Michelin tires on our F 250 and are pleased with them, so we thought that's what we needed to get for the Motor Home, but it looks like there are other options some of you are satisfied with. I have had Michelins XRV and I now have Toyo's. I never had any problems with the Michelins but they were the softer XRV strictly designed for motorhomes. They lasted five years before they started getting small side wall cracks believe it is called checking.

Then I bough Toyo tires and they lasted another five years and they also started to get some cracks on the side walls. But the only difference between the Michelins and the Toyo's was that Michelin would not pro rate for a new set. While Toyo was more then glad to knock off a couple of thousand for the six tires. And I believe they both ride just as smooth. Not sure if the Toyo tires are truck tires, but even if they were I can not tell the difference in the ride factor. Only thing I can say is that they do not blow up as easy as the XRV tires were on the Michelins.

B F Goodrich ST230's on our 2004 Country Coach at the suggestion of Pat at Pro Tire in Denton TX. We have over 50,000 miles on them and we are very happy with the ride and very little wear patterns. Much better ride than the Toyos that came on the RV. He came to our RV site, changed all 6 tires, balanced and did laser alignment, set the ride height and toe-in. MM, fortunately instead of buying a new Oldsmobile diesel in 1978 I bought a used MB diesel. I stayed with MB until ten years ago when their quality went down too far. UNFORTUNATELY I did buy four Chevy diesel PUs at the same time with extended warranties. Most expensive mistake I've ever made as GM would not warranty head gaskets. Like you I have not bought another GM product since so it was a two person crusade and I will not buy an extended warranty either.:(
From my reading the newer XRV tires are OK but people on this forum reported their XRV did blow out while in storage and Michelin did NOTHING. Unlike 40+ years ago, there are other choices for good radial tires. I agree that Michelin makes great truck tires, but I vote with my wallet when someone gives poor service.
PS: My 03 Lexus LS430 has been the best car I've ever own with zero problems in 10 years and it's never been to a dealer since the day I drove it off the lot. I hope to enjoy it for another 10 years.:B

It was hard for me to consider another brand other than Michelin. Our original and first set were 7 yrs. old and I put 57,000 miles on them without any problems whatsoever. I like to 'avoid' problems and over maintain our coach and didn't want to push the tire issue taking them to 10 yrs.

So, we went through the Michelin program replacing all 8 tires (295/80R/22.55) and I received $50 each for the take-off's.

Buy what you feel comfortable with.

Ivylog, I understand your reluctance to buy something that the manufacturer doesn't stand behind. I was not aware of the Michelin issue as I really don't follow tires. I never bought another GM product after the piece-of-junk Oldsmobile diesel I bought new back in 1981 that they didn't help with from their bad engineering. See, my one person crusade put Oldsmobile out of business!
But really, I can't buy another GM product because of their treatment.

Having driven 4 million miles I will only run Michellins 1st Bridgestones 2nd and Shook Tire out of Oklahoma next.

Replaced Goodyear G670's on previous coach with Hankook AH-12 after doing my research. They were not cheap but less expensive than Michelins, Goodyears or Bridgestone. There were very smooth running tires.

My current coach has Michelins because that is what the dealer chose to put on it as part of the deal. I would have been just as satisfied if he had used the Hankooks.

Two areas in RVing you don't want to skimp: tires and mattresses
