Norcold refrigerator drip line

In my 2005 Fleetwood Excursion 39S we have a standard Norcold 1200 series four door refrigerator. Inside of the refer, under the cooling fins is a drip tray from which there is a small diameter hose that goes through the rear of the refer to a smaller drip tray on the back side of the refer. The hose has a factory installed plug in the end of it. My question is why did Norcold install the drip hose if they were going to put a plug in it so none of the water can drain from the inside drip tray?

Interesting, I'll have to look at it more when it's light out.

X2, I sometimes have to clean the hole out as it does get plugged.

  • Pull the plug out and put a wrap a nylon around it with a piece of duct tape....problem solved forever....well, at least until the Norcold dies....:W.....Dennis

The plug is there to keep hot air from getting inside. Needs to be cleaned, not thrown away.

X3, clean mine once a year.

Ditto: And if the tube has cracks either slid a piece of smooth tubing over the old one with some silicon sealer or replace it. Warm air entering the refer from the hose can really raise temps.
  • This is the OP - not that I doubted all of you, but I had to go get the plug out of the drawer (where I had saved it) and then I blew threw it. Low and behold, it was a vent and air went through it! It's now reinstalled.
