Norcold RV and Marine refrigerator?

Anyone have any experience with the Norcold 12 volt/120 volt refrigerators made for RVs, boats and trucks. Sounds like a good solution to replace the fire bomb no cooling Norcold RV refrigerators. I am looking at the Norcold 7 to replace my 16 year old Norcold model 9652. It has a compressor and cooling coil on the rear of the unit and comes with a condenser cooling fan installed. It would eliminate the need for an inverter to power it while on the road. The cost is about the same as a replacement gas, electric model. I have only found one residential refrigerator that will fit my space and it will take 2 to 4 weeks to get it.

Does the Avanti run on 12 volts too or just 120? I don't boondock but I thought the 12 volts would be good when traveling during the day.

thats what i installed here, when our old Norcold blew up 4yrs ago

we have been running that Avanti residential since August 2010



the inside door shelfing on ours, is different, guess they made some changes in the last 4 years
ordered it at the local appliance dealer, it arrived in three days

It sounds like it will consume a lot of electricity, and dry camping might become a problem.

SunElec.com sells some 12 volt solar panels near $1 per rated watt. You probably have to call them, as only the larger high voltage panels designed for house mounting are shown on their website.

Look for something in the 100 - 175 watt range. Anything larger becomes difficult to handle while mounting to the roof, and difficult to walk past it while doing rooftop maintenance.
