NYC campground recommendations

Hi I think we will be in the Niagara Falls area later in June after that we want to go to NYC to see Lady Liberty and the Twin tower monument. Looking for a campground to stay at but not pay off the national debt. Have a 40' class A with toad. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron
  • Stayed athttp://www.libertyharborrv.com/ couple of years back. had 30 amp hook up and water. they have one (1) common dump station so you have to use some good timing to dump and get out of there. other than that one inconvenience it was a good place to stay. you can walk about 4 or 5 blocks and there is a PATH station to ride under the river and you can get off the underground near times square in NYC.
we always picked up a cab at path station for the ride 4 or 5 blocks back to RV park late at night....!!!!

It was very handy though with nice boats parked across the fence from you and a fair view of lady liberty.

You might also consider Croton Point Park. It is on the Hudson River north of the city. Rate is about $50 per night for full hookup. You can take the train to the city. About a 30 minute trip.

In fact we will be arriving there today. We plan to be there for a week.

Croton Park is a great place however the train ride to the city is more than 30 minutes. It's more like 75-90 minutes if I recall

  • WE stayed at the Newburgh NY KOA. About an hour north of NYC. You can take the train into the city at Beacon NY. The KOA has a tour from the RV Park but it's pricey.
  • We stayed at Liberty Harbor a number of years ago, like fire instructor said, it's not much more than a parking lot with hookups. The view, however, of the Liberty Lady is magnificent from there though and it is close to city transportation. I would not hesitate to stay there again.
  • Yes there are six (6) RV sites at Floyd Bennett Filed National Park, but there are no hookups. There is no real good roads to take a 40" MH with a Toad. Like others said there is Liberty Park with easy Path train service to Manhattan.

Some other people stay about 1 to 1-1/2 hours outside NYC and take a train or in the OP case a Toad into the city
  • The only thing really CLOSE to NYC is Liberty Harbor RV Park. Really not more than a secure parking lot with hook-ups, but it meets the needs of those wishing to visit NYC in an RV. There is/was a proposed RV park in Brooklyn, but I'm not sure that it ever got built.....
