I hope this does not sour you on Tiffan as they are a great family run business and make a wonderful product. I could only see this if you wanted a whole lot of custom options like special weird collage paint, bunk beds and other unusual stuff.

Reading through this thread.. This is OPINION, and for the record my opinion and (Insert cost of a cup of coffee, do not forget tax and tip) will get you exactly..... One cup of coffee (Possibly with free refills if the place offers them).

When a contract is inked.. That should be final. they should not be calling you up and saying "OH we need more money". Yet many dealers do exactly that.

They **SHOULD** be doing their research BEFORE inking the contract. But alas, in the rush to sale.. Many dealers shortcut, then hit you with the "We need more" bit... In my opinion the buyer has two choices when this happens.

1: And I applaud those who do this, REFUND of down payment and shred the contract.

2: Enforce the original contract. Do not allow them to make the mod.. This, is far more costly.. But it results in the dealer earning profit. which should be denied.

and in both cases.. As the O/P did in this thread (Contacting the manufacturer direct) not a bad idea.. Enough such contacts and the dealer might not be selling new ______s any more (fill in the brand involved).

Mike Thompson's, while not a shining beacon of customer service, is financially solid. So it is unlikely they wanted the money up front because they needed the operating capital.

If you order an expensive coach and go with atypical options or colors be prepared for a dealer to want a non-refundable deposit in the amount necessary to put the coach back to a standard build if for any reason you don't take delivery. Basically if you order a pink Allegro Bus with mohair seats and solid gold fixtures, you'll have to cough up a pretty hefty deposit to get it ordered.

Otherwise, any coach ordered as a standard build with conventional options and colors and no special modifications, like a cat door that leads to a kitty condo in the basement, should get by with a $5000 deposit only. Basically if you don't take it, they put it on their lot and sell it to someone else.

Yep. The dealer may be having credit line trouble, or they simply want the customer to float the money for them.

I think the OP has averted a serious disaster. It was probably a good thing the dealer asked for more money so quickly.

My RV required a 5K deposit, the balance upon delivery AFTER PDI.

Order is Cancelled...No lose of our money...

McMahon's had a customer complaining about not receiving his money from his SOLD consigned RV (Palm Springs) about a year ago. They made him wait forever until he got the local news channel involved.

That alone would make me not want to do business with them. McMahon's ran a string of commercials showing one of the 'McMahon's' advertising his RV's. I had not heard that they went out of business.

I guess you have to be really careful out there.

Can't be McMahon's they are out of business....all locations closed, they owe the DMV, BOE and GE Capital

Word is either Giant RV or Camping World may take over after they get the $$$$ straightened out.

There's another good point. I've purchased two brand new motorhomes now and customer service seems to not exist once the docs are signed and you've driven it off the lot. For some reason the RV dealers have not learned like car dealers have. Once they have your money that's all they care about and if it takes six months to get the punch list all fixed they just don't care.
