onan generator carb kit

Is there a carb rebuild kit made for a Onan generator 4KY spec J. Searched ebay and google and found nothing.
  • Just what I do. I have an ultrasonic jewlery cleaner. I use it with drugstore IPA (isopropal alcohol) for small carb cleaning/rebuilding. I run it outside to minimize any fire hazzard. I take the carb completely apart and remove any rubber parts and plastic float if it has one. Remove all jets (very important) and ultrasonicate for 2-3 hours. Blow dry and re-assemble. Works almost every time.
  • Onan says that it is not a serviceable piece....
That is to get around CARP emissions regulations.
Take the carburetor off and look it over carefully. Collect all the numbers. It is probably a Walbro and will have a model code. Mine say LMB. Then look at online small engine parts suppliers like Small Engine Parts Warehouse .

    Good Luck

  • Onan only sells the complete carburetor, no rebuild kit, Onan was purchased by Cummins.

  • Thanks j-d for your insight. I know someone is on ebay that sells reman carbs, so I might go that way. As a former owner of a tool & die shop I always believed in the KISS principal. I cannot understand why a large company like onan, and they are not alone, designs and makes a product that is difficult to repair and does not sell a repair kit for it. I guess they just want to sell new carbs. And avoid any liability issues. If your looking for answers, I always say follow the money.

When I lived in west central FL, there was a fuel system shop that would rebuild ONAN along with their bread and butter auto/truck carb work. There's a similar operation where I am now in NE FL that won't. Just auto/truck. If you live in a populous area, you might be able to call around and get some parts or somebody to rebuild it. ONAN itself discontinued carb parts/kits. I consider myself lucky to have gotten that rebuild. I'd tried several times to clean it and never could. The shop had ultrasonic equipment that got the sticky old fuel deposits out.
