Oregon roads ?

So we're planning a trip to Salem, OR. and wondering about the roads North from Bend through Willamette National Forest. Considering Hwy 20 from Bend then the 22 road or stay on the 20 to Albany and the I5?

I can handle some kinda steep roads but narrow is not much fun. We're traveling in a 40' DP with a jeep toad.

Anyone have experience with those roads?

Thanks!
  • Just returned from Bend, Or. There are a few fires up there right now. Sisters had a lot of smoke. Check for road closures and air quality. ;)
  • You won't have any problem, it is good two lane blacktop or at least was when we traveled it a few years ago. There are some grades, after all it is in the mountains, but nothing to worry about and quite scenic.
  • Neither are narrow. Both can be bad in Winter. 22 is more direct as others have noted.
  • If your heading south, then at the top at Hoodoo turn South toward Eugene. Nice deive and you avoid 50 miles of I5. Better yet, 97 south.
  • you will be much happier on 22 and it will take you right to Salem
