We're going to visit our daughter in Pittsburgh in September. I've read there are issues around there with narrow roads and low bridges. Anyhow, I'm looking for recommendations on places to park the rig (40 footer and toad). We don't need to park real near to her house. She lives in the North Shore area near Allegheny General Hospital. Thanks.

UPDATE

Well, we settled on Rose Point Park Campground in Newcastle. Look like large sites and it's just 35 minutes from Pittsburgh. Thanks, again.

Hey, guys. OP here. Thanks very much for all of these suggestions. My wife is researching them now. Several good possibilities. Of course, there's always the fallback of cbshoestring's grassy area which I understand is ours for a bottle of Kalua and a six pack of Bud. Thanks again to all.

I kinda joked that I could fit a few RV's on the empty lots I own next to the house. I keep reading all these posts about people doing meetings in PGH and I may have to run a water hose and an extension cord to the far side of the lot. Only 9 miles to Pittsbugh...maybe I should take out the garden as well, that would be atleast one more spot.

What is the going rate for a no services---level grassy spot :h

Hey, why not put in a couple of 50 amp pedestals, a water connection and you could get $65 a night as you are so close to Pittsburgh.

Just a thought. 🙂

I think that both places would be safe. These places are not in crime areas and there is always someone around..

Besides Rose Point, Big Bear camp ground Portersville, Pa Near Moraine State Park, there is Indian Brave Rv Camp ground Zelienople-Harmony. That one would be the closest to Pittsburgh, about 20 mins 79 to 279 and your there.

Rose Point is a nice place. It is right off I-79 and is a 35 minute drive to Pittsburgh.. Here is their website http://rosepointpark.com/rates_reservations.htm Also there is a Yogi Bear campground about 1 hour north of Pittsburgh. I have been to this one and it is a nice clean park out in the country with a lot of ammeneties and quiet camping.. http://pittsburghjellystone.com/

Which place do you think would be best to leave our coach as I have a meeting in Pittsburg and will be staying in a hotel. I just need a safe place to store the coach for about 5 days. Would you chose Rose Point or Jellystone?

Thanks,

There's an Elk Lodge in Irwin Pa about 20 miles east of Downtown that has two sites with water/electric. Dump station on the property. They don't list how much but give them a call.

I live about 5 miles from Mountain Top CG. I have never stayed there but I did stop there and spoke to the previous owner about 10 years ago.

Mountain Top used to be a country music venue/campground. The builder and previous owner would book top name country singers a couple weekends a year. He had a large covered stage. His wife and himself were country singers. Most music fans would bring their RVs for the weekend. Even though the campground was open to the public the previous owner did not promote it as such.

It is actually on a large hill top. The entrance road is not paved and could be better. Sites are around the top of the hill.

Their daily rate has always been high but they give 50% off with Passport America. You can join PA when you check in.

Their website has some photos of the campground.

The Pittsburgh area is not a good campground area. The few campgrounds contain almost all permanent campers.

That being said Mountain Top is the closest campground to downtown Pittsburgh by far.

I agree take exit 16 off of route 28, Allegheny Valley Expressway. There is no tunnel using exit 14 and then Bull Creek Rd. I live off ext 17.

Passport America is only valid for first 2 nights.
