Propane Tank Valve replacement?

We have an 88 Elite Class C 26 Feet (Ford Econoline 350).

We bought this a few months ago and have not been camping with it yet.

The propane tank has the old style valve (not OPD). Can this valve be replaced with an OPD and, if so, since the tank sits sideways, will the float shut off when the tank is half full when filling it?

Thanks for your time!
Sam.

No. She just said something about installation of tank..blah blah..needed OPD valve and walked off.
There is a bulk dealer about 20 miles from me so I will try them.
Thanks, Old-Biscuit.. you have saved me a lot of grief and I appreciate it.

Thanks very much for the info!

You would be better served by using a propane bulk dealer.

That 'gas station attendant' obviously hasn't be trained or certified in propane delivery as required or he would know the difference between propane tanks and propane cylinders.
Surprised he didn't tell you 'tank' had to be removed to be filled :S

Filling propane is not to be taken lightly or done by 'pump jockeys'
for your and their safety.
Find a real propane refiller

You have an ASME TANK (not a cylinder)
Tank does not require the propane cylinder OPD service Valve only propane DOT cylinders do.

Your TANK has a internal float. Part of the 'FILL Valve'....liquid propane goes in

Your Service Valve allows Vapor to come out

Valves on cylinders function as fill and service valves hence the reason for the OPD (Overfill Protection Device)

Float on fill valve (to its right is 'liquid' level fixed tube that goes to bleeder valve. Both at set at 80% liquid level
