Why is it the Propane companies cannot/will not fill the propane tank on motor homes while parked in a campground? Must go to propane companies place of business.
Small tanks I understand as they must be weighed.

When the kids lived in Binghamton,NY We would stay in their driveway for up to two weeks and when their propane truck came He would fill our M.H. tank if i asked. I would just pay the kids then.

Also many of the campgrounds at Myrtle Beach , they will come to your site. You notify the office and you must be present when they come.

They DO in Texas and ANY State that has comprehensive LP/Natural gas safety laws. The ONLY correct way and SAFE way to fill DOT tanks is by weight. Doug (licensed by the Texas Railroad Commission and have been since 1979 to Fill and Service LP systems).

I've seen propane trucks trolling the RV parks any number of times, and have had mine filled by them many times.

I suspect that if the park has its own propane service they will be less receptive to mobile suppliers.

All the RV Resorts in Lake Havasu, AZ. have propane service! Were sitting for 6-7 months and really enjoy the mobil service.

Haven't ran into that problem as yet!

Often it is due to local fire regulations. You can get MHs filled in the parks in Casa Grande, AZ but you can't in Mesa, Az - - difference is the local fire departments regulations.

I've been in RV parks where the LPG distributor will come out on call, others where they will come out one day a week and go through the park. I think for the distributor, it is a matter of trying to get some return on manpower costs.

But you said "campground." Depending on what government agency is running the campground, it might be a matter of policy to restrict commercial activity.

IN another forum we have a favorite saying "Your Millage May Vary"

Laws and other regulations vary from location to location,, In some places either the state, the county, the city or the park say "YOU CAN NOT DO THAT".

Other places, No such restriction.

Guess it all depends as I've seen propane trucks quite often filling RV's including the small tanks. I would suspect it depends on how many customers are available. Parks with an significant extended stay population would be more likely to have service available.

As was stated, no requirement to weigh the smaller tanks in most (if not all) locations.

Apparently, it depends on where one lives. Some people insist it is the only legal way to dispense propane to small cylinders.
Every time I have bought Propane for years it has been by the metered gallon, no scale used.

Our local refiller will do it either way. If you don't ask for a metered fill though, they fill by weight.

It is a company policy plain and simple. They offer all kinds of reasons, but when pressed, the answer will always be the same, company policy. I am certified to "deliver" propane here in Idaho and know the state law, but had one company tell me that it was against the law to deliver propane to an RV. WRONG, try again. Then it became a town ordinance, WRONG, next excuse. 2 out of the 3 local companies will not fill a motorhome on site, but the 3rd will and at a price 25ยข/gal cheaper than the others, plus has NO delivery charge or safety fee charge the other 2 impose. Ours was just filled on our site last week @ $1.89 a gallon.
