"Tough Top" for 21' Electric Patio Awning?

I put Tough Top on all my slide toppers 3 years ago - great product. I now need to replace 14-year-old A&E automatic patio awning (21 feet, tearing at the top). I want to use Tough Top, but my mobile RV repair guy is concerned about over-stressing the motor since Tough Top is heavier duty than A&E fabric - the company says Tough Top patio awning is 18 oz vinyl.

I sometimes attach a drop-down sunshade when parked a while and the motor seems OK with that. I never roll it up all the way; just enough during wind events and never travel with it obviously.

I could live with another A&E fabric, but really like Tough Top (and would match slide toppers).

Any comments appreciated.

    How long do you expect to keep the trailer? If you got 14yrs out of the first, good chance a replacement will outlive the RV.

    14 years old. Since the awning has to come off to replace the fabric, I would replace the 14 year old motor also. I doubt the heavier fabric would stress the motor that much. Doug
