Re-piped kitchen sink

After we bought the Windsor we noticed that the water flow from the main kitchen faucet was very low. The bathroom and shower was normal. I checked the water piping under the sink and got quite a shock! Monaco had run the main cold water line through the water filter, then out to the sink faucet, instant hot water faucet, and icemaker. No wonder the flow was low since the water filter only passes 1/2 gallon per minute!

After thinking about it, I realize that they did it this way because there was not a separate faucet for the water filter. I know this was not a million dollar coach but you would think they would have spent a few more dollars and put in the separate water filter faucet!

To solve the problem I decided to remove the instant hot water faucet, which did not work anyway, and install a separate faucet for the water filter. I then reworked the piping to put the main kitchen faucet direct on the cold water supply pipe, and have the new faucet and icemaker on the water filter. Problem solved!

BTW, I was amazed at the wide range of prices on the small faucet for the water filter! They went from $19.95 all the way up to almost $100! I found one for less than $20 that looks nice and does the job for me!:B

There was a filter problem, I too have faced the similar problem in my kitchen sink, the water redirects within the tap. I left with no option other than replacing it with new one.

Ok. That makes more sense to me now. That filter system was designed for one spigot drinking water use only. Do you not have a "whole house" filter system in one of your bays? If not, pick one up and install it and then you can do totally away with that compact filter system. I think if you go back and take a look at a post you made back in Oct. 2012, you will find that recommendation from some others. If that was the only filter system installed from the factory, I am really surprised that it was hooked up to the kitchen sink. I understand the drinking water only faucet and the ice maker as that .5 fpm flow would be fine. No doubt you had very restrictive flow using that system with the kitchen sink faucet. Here is the link to your original post about this problem. Thanks for your patience in further explanation for me. Post in Oct. 2012

Monaco designed it right. They filtered all the water that was going into your food, drink and mouth. If you have the right filters and they are clean, look elsewhere for the blockage. Most of the time it is the filters but sometimes the screen in the faucet outlet is the problem. Monaco also designed a separate ultra-violet treated system that fed a faucet on your sink for sanitizing you cups, countertops, etc. This was available as an option as was the insta-hot system. Most of the 10" filters handle 3 -4 gals. per minute flow with some down to 1 - 2 gals per min. I have never had a water flow problem on my 05 system unless the filters were clogged.

The filter element is an Everpure EV959206 and it states right on the label that the flow rate is .5 GPM. I measured the flow from the kitchen faucet BEFORE making the changes and it was about .5 GPM.

Was the water filter in your coach factory or could it have been an aftermarket add on? I only ask this as ours has a seperate water dispenser just like the one you installed and it came that way new from Monaco and our HR is way down the "food chain" from your windsor.

The water filter came installed from the factory. :B

I guess Monaco finally wised up. Our H/Rambler Ambassador has a separate water filter faucet...from the factory.
