VW has come a long way! Been doing some off the wall YouTube searches and stumbled into this! Gives a BRAND NEW meaning to the VW camper van that was associated with the 1960's flower power movement!

You might have seen this before, but this ain't your 1960 version VW van any more!

Nice looking unit but I still hate VW's. Those old hippie vans were limited to 50 for good reason, unsafe at any speed.

When I told my mom in 2007 I was going to buy a minivan, she had no idea of what I was talking about. She said "you mean of those hippie vans"?

They were so dangerous and crazy, yet those VW vans are so awesome. 🙂
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

VW itself builds much better versions( Transporter and Crafter) . Here we have lot more choice to choose from. Renault Master is much more popular than the Transit. Japanese/ Korean Vans are a good choice
Older VW Crafter

Something I would definitely be in the market for, however it's a moot point as there are no plans to release this in the US.

Hi Folks,

My second camper was a 1980 VW Vanagon. Loved it but the engine was to small. This California might be what I need. One thing missing. A toilet and no room for a PortiPotti. Other than that, a great every day car that you could go camping. Price will be through the roof. Guess I shall keep my 2002 Roadtrek 190V for now.

A few interesting design features. One is the way the sofa converts to a bed. They added foldaway cushions that must add a great deal to the comfort.
Would I use it for a long trip? I'd answer with a question: where's the toilet and shower?

These are used for short journeys or weekends away. Max Number 2

Not this. Sister has one that has a 2litre diesel, that passes cars at 70mph Going UP a hill.Fuel Economy is pretty amazing and works out on a long trip 6.4 Litres per 100km or 37 miles per US Gallon.

Aw yes, the memories from my 1965 VW bus. Thanks for taking me back to my first camper. And, didn't have to be campin' to be enjoying the setup. 😉
