Replacement Backup Camera System Selection

What is your experience with either a Voyager system or a RearViewSafety (RVS) system. I'd like to hear pros and cons of both.

I need to replace my backup camera system, as my 10+ year old Navigator monitor has failed and I've talked to the people at RVCAMS.com as well as looking at the systems on the Camping World website to find a replacement. I'm going to stay with a wired system with a single camera, but I'm really at loss to understand why the tremendous price difference between the Voyager systems sold on RVCAMS.com vs. the RVS systems sold by Camping World. Is the quality and feature list on the Voyager system that much better than the systems sold by Camping World? And if that's true, why would Camping World be selling an inferior system? I'd think Camping World would be concerned about maintaining its reputation with the RV community. No matter, the bottom line is that the system prices are significantly different, and I'd like to know your experiences and opinions with both so that I can incorporate your info into my selection decision. Thanks.

  • I'm really more interested in your takes on the Voyager and RVS systems themselves... Pros and Cons. Happy with them or no, and why. Thanks.

I have recently been having issues with my Jensen system and the more research I have done the more I read abou them going bad in about a year (conveniently after the warranty expires). I won't buy Jensen if I have to resort to an aftermarket system.
  • Virtually any camera will work just fine. When I replaced the one on my 2000 Beaver I checked with RVCam but they were less than truthful about the issues. Finally I picked up on off Ebay for 69.00, fabricated a mount, and plugged it in.

Do you own research and don't believe everything that RVcam tells you. Basically they will tell you that only their cameras will work and that just ain't so.
  • Nothing magical about camping world. They buy stuff wholesale, mark it up (a lot) and sell it in their store and from their catalog. I found that out the hard way in the early days of RV'ing. Bought an XM radio setup from CW; BestBuy had the exact same unit for 60% less. DOH!

I have dealt with the guys at RVCams and they were very helpful when I needed to replace a camera. They figured out which new camera would be the same as what my 20 year old rig had and shipped it off. Plug and play. I was very happy with their service. Just go to the search function on this forum and type in rvcams.
