Replacing old TV's with new HD mods

my mh had the old tvs. What i did was unplug the tv, unplug the cable (mine runs to a router box) pull out the old tv. Since it was so large, it looked heavy but its not. I mounted a plywood board in the opening, piano hinges at the top and a hole to put the new tv cable and electric plug through and i puchased a new mounting bracket at Goodwill. I hung the TV plugged in the electric cord and cable and it was done. Not a big job.

we replaced our front tv with a new lcd. we bought a cheap wall mount and used some of the new parts to match up with the old mount. we learned after we bought the new tv to not only measure the outside dimensions but the spaceing of the mounting holes on the new tv and the distance from top to bottom. the new tv mounting holes were not in the center of the new tv.

We did ours as well...Had I used the opening that our old 27 in. CRT fit in, we could have put a 32 in. flat screen...BUT...I was able to get a 37In. Vizio TV that fit across the opening and still allowed the two side doors to open...

Really great projects you guys! I have been pondering how to do this to both the front and rear TVs in my RV. I appreciate your know-how.

Not diffacult at all. Replaced the front TV with a 32" Vizio that completly covered the hole and still allowed the left and right cabinets doors to open. The old TV is winched in place and to remove there is a winch drive above the passenger side cabinet. Look for the hole and use a 3/4" socket to lower. You will need to remove the cover under the bottem of the TV and also the bottem wood frame.

I did something similar to the 1x12 solution. I constructed a wooden "box" to fit into the hole previously occupied by the CRT TV. One face of the box is now where the front part of the TV screen used to be. To this face, I fastened a quick release HDTV mount. I also drilled a couple of 2" holes in the box face to route cables to the back of the new TV. The reason why I like the box over a single board is that I was then able to drive several screws into the side of the box (through the outside of the existing cabinetry) to hold the box in place. I think it provides a more secure mount for the TV than a single board.

You have choices for mounting flatscreens in place of CRT's......

If you are ok with a smaller screen, try to find a flatscreen in the width that will fit right behind the framing of the opening. Then just fashion some brackets to hold it in place.

I wanted something a bit larger, so I used a 1 x 12 mounted across the opening, then mounted a flatscreen right to that board, using a fixed TV mount. It sticks out an inch or two, but is mounted solidly and looks good.

Unless the old TV's are CRT's you should be able to use the existing mounting brackets. But there is no way anyone can predict how or what you will need until you get things apart and look. Have you thought of simple converters instead?
