After driving 3 hours, pulled in to a Raceway to fill up with diesel. Down a half tank. Vehicle would barely move onto the road. Sputtered once. Continued to drive, but not far. Stopped at the mall. Sat with the ignition on to run air. Pulled into traffic and it would barely move. Couldn't hardly get up the tiny bank to park in our spot and my experience in snow got us on to the levelers. We were headed to Freightliner to get the ignition looked at because it takes 3 tries to get it to start. Any ideas or suggestions? We are 20 miles from Freightliner.

When it happened to me, it was right after a fill-up. It turned out the fuel filter was clogged. My mechanic said he had never seen a filter clogged so bad. I think the tanks where I filled up may have been almost empty amd the fuel i bought was contaminated, but who knows. What I do know is that I changed the filter and have changed it regularly. It has not happened again.

This morning we found the air filter hose was not secured. We had gone over some pretty big speed bumps. Now check engine light is on. Could be another glow plug needs to be replaced.

Seemingly it was the air filter hose needed to be tightened. I had gone over some big road bumpers.

I would also check for possible water, from a bad load of fuel. It happens some times from condensation in station tanks or a bad load of fuel from the supplier.

Good luck.

if this one requires DEF fluid it could be low or empty on DEF in which case it will cause the computer to go into open loop when running. But since it wont start I am also leaning to gas in diesel.. One time a few years ago a station near me actually had to refund its customers and pay repairs when the tanker truck accidentally put gas in the diesel underground tank and vice versa

Open the fuel filler and snif. Gas in the diesel will sell different than all diesel.

Is there a way to get back to the station and figure out what pump you were at and about what time it was you were there? If so, they should be able to a print out of what you bought based on time and amount you purchased. This may not be your problem but maybe its a start.

Praying it was diesel and not gasoline. Asked to see the receipt to check. Did not get a receipt.

Right now hard starting is the least of our worries.

Yes a 2008 Sprinter. And yes There must not be a stick to check it. Looked everywhere.

I'm assuming this is a Sprinter? I think I read once on here that the Sprinter transmission doesn't have a dipstick for checking fluid level. I can't think that would cause hard starting anyway.

Are you SURE it was not gas?

Filters were changed at last service 2 months ago. Wondering if the transmission fluid is low, but can't find info in manual.
