RT Chevy 2nd Battery Box & Tray
Our 2nd coach battery is installed behind the passenger rear wheel. This location is OK, but the battery box and tray leaves a lot to be desired. First the battery box should have been larger, a type 27 battery is a very tight fit (unlike the 1st coach battery box). Second the battery tray is too tight and binds against the box. Third the tray slides are not big enough to handle the load or the corrosion from the road dirt due to the poor design of the box. They have had to be replaced with larger slides laid horizontal and screwed to the bottom of the box and the underside of the tray
The inside of the outside cover has been built out with foam to extend the bar from side to side, but that was insufficient to close the gap through which the road dirt enters the box. The front of the box has now been covered with overlapping plastic report covers (8.5 x 11 inches) and a rectangular hole cut to allow the velcro to make contact. The plastic cover has been temporarily fastened with duct tape along the top edge, but a more permanent fastening will be made with a wood or metal strip to enable easier removal for servicing the battery.
