RV Insurance

Specifically Good Sam/National General Insurance.

Two weeks ago I lost my 98 Dolphin to fire (that's another story). I found I had inadequate coverage for content, but that was my fault.

Coverage on the RV is a different story. National General gave me a Market Value that was close to what I'd determined based on my own Internet searches. As a matter of fact, it was more than my purchase price from PPL in Houston. To say I'm a happy camper is an understatement! I can highly recommend Good Sam RV Insurance.

  • Insurance Company rates change from State to State! What is a good rate in your State might not be as good as in another! I buy insurance to protect myself no other reason!
  • I've been with National General several years now but started doing some pricing around since the renewal for the RV next month came in $180 more than last year. As my home owner, autos and RV insurance are all due within a couple of weeks, I've checked around and have found that the "bundle" offered by AARP/Hartford for house, both autos and the Homeowner insurance is $700 cheaper than what I'm currently paying to the three different companies.
  • Thanks for letting me know. Was considering going back with them after a pause for a while.
  • Think about us.

We have a 42yo coach. I found out that the policy I had would max out at about 2500$ if it was damaged. If I broke a taillight, they might just total it out (kidding). Not kidding, a member of our group had an engine fire that was quickly extinguished. The insurer wrote the coach off and let him keep it. It still cost more than they paid for just the materials to make the repairs.

That is when I found out about "Agreed Value" coverage. This is different than "stated value" (They state the value).

This is why we now pay a lot more for insurance, but if the coach gets damaged, I have a hope of repairing or replacing it.

  • Thanks for posting that - we have been considering which insurance to get and hearing actual reports from those who have had to make a claim really helps.
