Scangauge Connector

...Where is it?

I am interested in installing a Scangauge to our 1998 Monaco Windsor with Allison and Cummings. I can't find the connector!

The only exposed port is a 12-pin rectangular port, that does not look like an OBDII. It is labeled "diagnostics," and is under the dash to the right of the steering column.

Concealed under the shift console is a 16-pin port, with a plug and single wire coming out. It does not look like the ports on the Scangauge website, though it IS round..

Am I missing the obvious, or is it really concealed? Where? I hate to be moving wires around without a plan.

I have a Roadmaster chassis. I looked under the front of the coach, in the engine bay, in the front bins, throughout the shifter console, and through the dash as much as I could without removing components such as the radio, monitor, etc. I don't think I have J connector, or it cannot be revealed without some surgery..

The ScanGaugeD does not come with the connecting cable I need. I spoke with the ScanGauge people, and they have a replacement cable to fit the 12-connector rectangular diagnostics connector under my dash. It is on the way, as is my ScangaugeD.

Thanks all!

You will need the Scanguage D, which will have the proper connectors for your diesel pusher. I have used on with my 97 Beaver Monterey with a Cat engine for several years now, and love it!! I also have the factory display, but it is in the middle of the dash, and is impossible to read in daylight, so the Scanguage works for me. You can program it to show several different functions.

Matt,
First off, you've stated your coach and model. But, just wondering, what chassis? I'm not all that familiar with Monaco's so, I don't know what chassis they came with. But, I also don't know if you have a diagnostic round connector, at the rear of your coach, just above the radiator. That is, if yours is a REAR RADIATOR. I'm going to try and link a picture of the diagnostic port on mine. It's very typical of many diesel rear radiator coaches but, not necessarily ALL of them.
Now, if this picture comes through, all you'll really see is the cap for the diagnostic port, not the port itself. But, if you have one, on the rear, I'd bet dollars to donuts that you'd have the identical front one, just to the left of the steering column and, usually it's tucked pretty deep down in that area. It may be consealed by a loom or, something else.

But, at least on most, that cap is a gray cerrated cap, typically right at 1 1/8" in diameter. That cap usually takes about 1/3 of turn to remove it from the connector. One thing here, DO NOT LOOSE THAT CAP!!! If you do, it will run you a measly TWENTY DOLLARS at your local Diesel service center, JUST FOR THE CAP! Typically, it's tethered on a small connector so it doesn't get lost.

But, any way, take a look deep into that lower, left steering column area, quite possibly up against or, even attached to the firewall just a few inches up from the floor. There seems to be no real rhyme or reason for the area they're installed. Good luck.

The round connector is called a J connector. Mine is left of my steering column above my left foot.

On my '14 Tuscany (Cummins and Allison), the OBD (round connector) is at the rear of the coach on a panel immediately above the radiator. Don't have, or at least I haven't stumbled across it yet, one inside the coach at the driver's station...
My 2 cents, your mileage may vary...

YC,

In the compartment was more possible than I thought, once I got out there, but no connector nor hint of where it could be. I looked under the coach, open area and did not see anything, though it seems unlikely it would be exposed.

I went through the console carefully again, and no connector that meets the description.

Any more ideas?

Look in the compartment below the driver on the outside. Might be tucked into the console area on the left inside as well. Might have both.

I am a better speeler thqan typist.

That was my guess as well. I expect that it would have a J port to work with the Scangauge D, but I sure can't find it.

I guess we should be correct and refer to ScanGaugeD. ; )

Around here it's Cummins... around your buddies it's Cummings.

Im guessing your DP doesn't have OBD. Most diesels have a J port, the round connector and the gas scanguage isn't compatible.

I use a Silverleaf software with a cable to my laptop.

Its Cummins, not Cummings.
