tag axle

Ive been seeing a lot of mentions of a "tag axle". Just wanted someone to define what that is?

thanks!
  • Look at my signature picture below. The third axle is the tag. You can increase/decrease the pressure in the axle which puts more/less weight on the drive axle and corresponding weights on the steering axle. Lifting it raises it off the ground to allow for a shorter turning radius in tight situations without dragging (scuffing) the tires. It provides more stability in windy situations and s smoother ride overall. Weight capacity on my tag is 10,000 lbs......Dennis
  • Increased gross weight capacity and better handling, but you lose some basement storage and have two more tires to worrry about.
  • A tag axle is a third axle located behind the rear drive axle of a motor home. It is a non-drive axle with one or two tires on each side. The main purpose of a tag axle is to increase the support of the chassis at the rear of the vehicle, allowing for greater carrying capacity and shock resistance.
