The incredible windshield wiper saga

A couple of years ago I bought a set of wiper blades to carry with me on our trips. I was months before I decided to change them out, only to find that the typical automotive types don't fit the arms on a Sprinter.

I tried in vain to find adapters.

Naturally, I went to all the local auto parts places around town and still had no luck getting replacements.

Then I decided to try Amazon, because their "Fit" routine has been very helpful in the past, and as a result I bought a set of Bosch Clear Advantage 24CA and 26CA. It was very discouraging that they in fact did not fit, even though they came with four adapters.

Now desperate, I visited my local RV dealer, at which I purchased by vehicle. The only wiper blades they carry were for Class A RV's, nothing for mine.

On the way home I stopped by a Pep Boys store and talked to one of the guys at the register. He pointed me right to the correct parts, Rain-X Expert Fit B-24-2 and B-26-2.

Problem solved.

Wipers - What could be simpler...

I've stared buying name brand refills from Amazon. They come by widths in MM and the style of "claw" that retains them in the blade, rectangular or trapezoidal. I don't know if that'd help on a Sprinter.
  • Thanks for the heads up. I'll start my search now and tuck them away for when they are needed. :)
  • Here is a recommendation I just got from the sprinter forum:

    VERY elegant and cost-effective solution!
  • Just discovered today that those Rain-X blades are available at Wally world for half what I paid at Pep Boys. Not angry. Glad to find an alternative source.
  • One time I was on a long trip in a driving rainstorm. The windshield wiper motor gave out on me. I got under one of those covers where the gas pumps were at a truck stop. Didn't know what to do and it was a Sunday. I went in the truck stop and tried out the Rainx on the windshield. It worked so well I couldn't believe it. The water just blows off and got me all the way home. I always carry a bottle now.
  • Mercedes just has to do things their own way, right down to the wiper blades.

Where I lead a team of volunteer mechanics for our church auto repair charity, we occasionally work on MB vehicles. They are a P.I.B. every time. Everybody leaves them for the guy who shows up last.

    My apologies for the discouragement.
