Thor ACE ahead of the competition

I just saw the new ACE 29.3 online. It seems like the ACE is staying ahead of the pack with innovations in this class of RV.

What I really like is the outside kitchen with the full wall slide. Other plus is the 1000 W inverter.

I am hoping that one will be on display at Hershey next week. Anyone else see one yet?

Please don't hijack the thread Thor bashers.

Spent the day at Hershey checking out Class A's and C's. Conclusion is that for the money Winnebago makes the best A and Sun seeker the best C.

Compared the ACE, FR3, and Precept. All are great looking vehicles, and I think any would be an excellent choice for the price point. Winnie Vista was $20,000 over the prices of the others so I don't think it is an apples to apples comparison.

What it will come down to is floor plan and we still haven't nailed that down yet. I will say that, having a water damaged TT, I am really drawn to the Sun seeker C's Fiberglass roof and adzel walls.

Thor will never be ahead of the competition. They are in last place when it comes to quality.

Be careful on chosing a thor coach. I have 2014 challenger and my nephew has 2014 ace and I have had many issues with mine and he has had a 100 issues with his he is actually trying to get thor to buy him out or make an exchange but they refuse to do it. He has had the coach for nine months and 8 of them it has been sitting in the shop.Thor does not stand by the coaches. they blame the manufacturers of the products they pu in their coaches.

Well said, EricGT. I, like Effy, you, and I'm sure many others, do not have a money tree growing in the back yard, and cannot blow my nose on $1000 dollar bills.

The idea of sinking six figures into a depreciating asset that is basically a 'toy'.....Welllll, it will not happen for me in this lifetime, period. Maybe I'm cheap or old fashioned, but IMO thats just not wise use of $$. I'll give up camping/RVing before I put that much $$ into something that just loses value. If I have that much $$ to work with, I'm putting it into a property or something that will not drop in value every day

I know of some that have lost six figures in property or something(stocks). One of the big reasons for me why I personally would never ever buy new.

Since we have veered off topic a little, depreciation is not always the major factor for every person. You have to live! If people didn't buy new there would be no used units available.

Hehe, I think I was misunderstood. I never said there was anything wrong with buying new.

AAMOF, RVs are one thing I actually prefer to buy new, and always have for various reasons. Cars, I have no problem buying used, but not RVs. I like knowing that nobody but me and my family have slept in, lived in, 'used' our RV. 'Tis one of the great things about camping, RVing instead of staying in hotels.

I just refuse to sink ridiculous amounts of $$ into one in order to get it, thats all. Obviously what I see as 'ridiculous amounts' is very different from what others think, but like MM said, 'there's a bottom for every seat'. 🙂

Yep, I misunderstood you about buying new. We are like you, we like new too.

What does AAMOF mean? Haven't seen that one.

MM.

As a matter of fact.

Has anyone had a chance to check out Jayco's new class A model....the Precept?
I believe they have a 29' and 31' model already out and a 35' model coming out "as we speak".
They can be had for under $100K.

I am just a little confused regarding posters names, so I will just say what I see here. There are the Pros and the Cons and for whatever reasons each has, this post is really a bad read.

I think that the OP screwed up by writing he didn't want to hear from the bashers and that brought the most virulent bashers out. I don't like the low end Thors, just my preference. I want a little more of a status symbol and ego feeder. There I said it, anything above the ACE level is ego feeding. If one can afford it fine, but not everyone needs to feed their egos or has the money to do so.

The ACE series is selling and there aren't many used for sale so they must be reliable, and what folks like and want. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Good luck to you ajsrangelo and keep the shiny side shiny and most of all keep it up.

Like Effy and you have said several times: Show me a NEW Class A with this so-called sooooo much better quality, for less than $100K.

I'm not for or against Thor, Forest River, or any of them. They all are very similar, provided you truly compare apples to apples in terms of $$.

As to the original post here: Not sure I'd agree that Thor is that far ahead of the others. They, just like all the others, frequently come out with new 'gadgets' to either keep up, or try to get ahead of the competition. Every brand does the same, and they all have their good points and bad points. They all build their share of questionable quality.

Thats why you just have to do your research, and look over whatever you buy very closely before closing the deal. Thats what we did, and after 2 years, we're happy as pigs in slop with our 'entry level' FR Georgetown. Yeah, the build quality could stand improving here and there, but I can repair and upgrade a LOT, for MUCH cheaper than what I'd have to pay for the 'quality' rigs some keep pushing. 🙂
