Thor Challenger

Would like opinions on Thor Challenger.....good bad and the ugly so to speak. Looking to purchase a 2013 37DT at Motor Home Specialists Alvarado Tx. I think the Ford base is ok which is good I reckon with no other options available. Has Schwentek slides which are a concern. Vacuum bonded walls I believe etc. We are coming from a Mobile Suites so I know to expect a few variances. Thanks for all replies.....

Just bought 2015 37ND, love the Ford chassis rides really good, biggest problem is warranty work, dealer has to call Thor to get Bought ours in Fla. not economical to take to dealer (200 miles for warranty work) Lot's of minor issues, shower leaks, toilet leaks, drawers and pantry slide out when making turns (to many to list) so having to take it back to Elkhart for work ( live in Ga.)not wired for satellite either, not easy to hook up dvr from cable side, lot of engine noise especially when shifting out of overdrive

200 miles is not that long of a distance. My dealer (where I bought our 37ND from) is about 400 miles plus a few and I'm still in Texas. Lucky you! Just call for an appointment. If you take it to another place/dealer they put you on the back burner so to speak while they correct/repair/maintain the customers who brought from them first. I learned that the hard way. Mine has been at Campers World now for three months for warranty fixes (nothing major other than my Jensen Radio is down hard along with my cameras). I've heard nothing but bad news about CW (Campers World) but I'm hoping its all bogus. Good luck and enjoy. Getting "antsy" on this end to be on the road. I love my 37ND. /Mikey

  • I have had a 2013 37DT for almost a year. Two occurrences of a slide cutting the floor covering, both repaired under warranty , however I am somewhat concerned that it could happen again. Maybe I am just overthinking on this part. Otherwise, we have had no problems, handles well on the road towing a Jeep Wrangler. I have been impressed with the power and transmission. Good luck with yours.
  • Thank-you for each of your replies. I know it can be luck of the draw so to speak. I am happy with the Ford part and guess I'll roll the dice on the other parts. We have a 2010 Mobile Suites and found it wasn't all it was cracked up to be either.......think maybe thats just the RV aspect of it......
  • Motor Home Specialists Alvarado Tx is where I bought my 2015 Challenger 37ND. The company was great. We camped there for two days/nights and they even offered us a vehicle to go to the store for items. I'd buy from them again. I was a bit rushed though to get home and didn't get a few minor items corrected. It wasn't their fault though, I had to get my children back in school. Its a long buying process. They didn't pressure me since I checked out their inventory online prior to arriving. But one thing I learned - have any problems take it back to the original dealer for repairs because other dealers will put you at the back of the line if you didn't buy it from them and there is no telling when that could be (Campers World - I would recommend not dropping off there for any repairs. They've had ours now for 3 months and its still not in the shop. I may just go pick it up and take it to Motor Home Specialists Alvarado Tx). On the shake down cruise you might say, no problems. But on the drive back home to Corpus Christi several things happened. The over head bed above the driver/passenger seat developed a real major squeak and rattle. Two screens popped out, the Jensen radio went down hard and I lost our cameras (really like them btw) plus we cant get the usb ports to work now.
  • I had Schwintek slides on my living room slide outs on my previous fifth wheel. They were noisy and slow and would sometimes not come in or out straight but always worked. They are powerful as I ripped a cabinet door off its hinges on our first trip. I do prefer the hydraulic slides.
  • I have a 2014 Challenger KT and really enjoy it . No problems.
Just check it out like you are hunting for something wrong.
  • We purchased a used 2014 Challenger 37KT this past Jan & took off for Orlando for a one week stay and recently went to the NC coast for a long weekend. No problems so far.
Ideal cruising speed is 62 mph.
MPG at this speed is 8. We like the coach so far.
Because it's a Thor, some people won't like it.
    YMMV,
Have a great time looking for your ideal unit.
